EventDV Live Olympics Review

in video production

As a follow-up to my blog post critiquing the video coverage of the Olympics Opening Ceremony on EventDV Live, I wrote a second post summarizing my feelings on the games coverage following the closing ceremonies.  Both discussions compared the US NBC coverage to the Canadian  Consortium coverage, led by CTV and Rogers TV stations and media outlets.  My conclusion – Canada takes another gold for their excellent coverage!

Back in October I wrote a rechargeable battery blog post about my confusion with the use of rechargeable specifically in wireless lavaliere microphones.  After a few months of investigations, and spearheading a movement to have a defective battery charger recalled, I released my findings in this article in the January/February edition of EventDV Magazine.  My article title is:  The Sennheiser ew100ENG G3 Wireless System and Rechargeable Batteries and I review the new Sennheiser G3 line of wireless lavaliere microphones and compare several leading brands of rechargeable NiMH and low self-discharge NiMH batteries to standard alkaline ones.

Every now and I again I get to work on a pretty cool video shoot, for a pretty high profile client, at some pretty cool locations – last October I was fortunate enough to get the call from Stack Media to work with Nike on the launch of their Spring 2010 Women’s clothing line. Nike gathered journalists from all over the US and brought them to Vancouver, home of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, to meet with Nike product specialists, Nike sponsored US Olympic athletes, and tour some of the brand new Olympic venues. This being the media launch for the women’s line, I was one of only two male camera operators at the event, the only male journalist, and the only Canadian. On top of that, because the Stack media journalist with whom I was originally going to be working with could not get a passport on time, I was acting as both camera operator and journalist on this high profile gig.

Nike treated us to a first class time! We stayed at the beautiful Loden hotel – Vancouver’s finest boutique hotel – ate at the finest establishments, and went home with a lot of free Nike swag from their 2010 line. And even though this was a women’s event, Nike even made sure to get me some men’s clothing. Nice touch, Nike!

Below are a few of the videos I shot with the Nike sponsored US Olympians. You can see the all of them on the Stack TV site with this video link.

Here is 3 time Alpine Skiing Olympic Medal winner, Julia Mancuso, on Athletic Maturity.

Here are the rest of the athletes – follow the links in their names to see their videos (I couldn’t embed them all on this blog post as they all want to autoplay).

Here is American Olympian and short track speedskating sensation, Katherine Reutter.

Here is curler Nicole Joraanstad on her Olympic preparation.

Here is Olympic Hockey veteran Angela Ruggiero on competing in Vancouver.

Here is Longtrack Speedskating Olympian Jennifer Rodriguez on competing in Vancouver:

Here is Olympic skeleton competitor Katie Uhlaender on the impact her father has made on her as an athlete.

Here is figure skater Keauna McLaughlin on being a Nike sponsored athlete.

Here is snowboarder Ellery Hollingsworth on visualization.

Olympic Opening Ceremony Critique – Canada VS USA

February 19, 2010

I watched the Opening Ceremonies for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games with a bit of a different perspective than did most Canadians and even worldwide sports fans – I was watching to see how CTV, Canada’s Olympic network, covered the ceremonies. The 2010 Olympics marks the first time that a Canadian network did [...]
